The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm is a children's science fiction novel by Nancy Farmer.The novel is set in Zimbabwe in the year 2194.The book consists of the elements of science fiction and African culture.Rita, Kendai and Kuda are kidnapped and ultimately threatened with torture and death. There are guns and shootings,several characters are wounded, and spirits come to life, possessing characters and a frightening mask. Several characters are alcoholics. The She Elephant makes and sells alcohol. A character makes a reference to Roman orgies. In the traditional village, a girl is married at age 12 and pregnant at 14. The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm ( Ear has very powerful and sensitive hearing, Eye has equally powerful and sensitive vision, Arm has extremely long arms and legs, like a spider's.) look different and they use their differences to try to help people and get the kids home.This book has a strong theme of family, loyalty, and growing up. I recommend this book to anyone with a sense of humor and adventure.You will find yourself hurled into this funny dangerous world. In some parts of the story I felt like I was there with Tendai, facing the many dangers he is put up to.
